7 Things to Ask Before Hiring a Real Estate Agent

Tel Aviv real estate agents

Whether you’re in the search for your dream apartment or selling your  Tel Aviv real estate, here’s what to ask an agent before saying “You’re hired”.

1. How long have you been in the real estate business?

How long has this person been on the job (look for upward of a year), and were they full or part time? While experience is no guarantee of skill, real estate, like many other professions, is mostly learned on the job.

2. Are you certified and have a license?

It is unfortunate that in Israel and especially in Tel Aviv, there are so many agents who are working and operating without a license. It is by law and legally required that a Real Estate agent should have a valid license. Before saying “You’re hired” make sure to ask to see your agent’s license.

3. Can you outline how you would represent us?

Your agent should walk you through the entire process – from start to finish! If this is your first time in Tel Aviv, then make sure to ask as many questions about the process as possible. Your agent should also be able to provide you with free factual informations, a list of service providers (architects & interior designers, real estate attorneys, home inspectors, developers, etc.), and should be able to answer any questions you may have.

4. Will you show me apartments listed by other agents / collaborate in the sale of our apartment with other agents?

Double-check that the agent collaborates with other agents in the area. It is very common for agents to collaborate with one another in Tel Aviv, so make sure your agent will provide you with the highest exposure both on-line and off-line.

5. Are you familiar with our area?

You’ll want the agent to know the ins and outs of your neighborhood.

6. How many apartments have you sold?

If you’re in the market to sell, find out how many apartments they successfully sold last year. Asking for references is a good way to know what other people have to say about your agent’s service and working methods.

7. What’s your business style?

Every agent has their own ways of doing business. Your agent should outline and specify their working and marketing strategy, frequency of communication, etc. Find out how the agent will keep you updated on prospects and inform them about your preferences.
